What Peaks are Visible from Brahmatal Trek?
One of India’s most breathtaking winter Treks, the Brahmatal trek is a must-do. It is usually done in 5 Days and 4 Nights and starts from Lohajung Village which is around 316km from Dehradun. Beginning from Lohajung, you’ll trek through a dense forest and a frozen lake surrounded by meadows, eventually making your way to the snow-covered mountains. The trek’s popularity soars in winter, thanks to the snow that lasts until March. We will now be informing you what peaks are visible from Brahmatal trek.


Lohajung: It is a small village nestled at an altitude of around 2300m. The best part about the trek is you get the see the Himalayas from Day 01 itself.
Major Peaks that is Visible from Lohajung is: Nandaghunti (6309m). From the town only Nandaghunti is visible making it a perfect start to what you are going to witness later on the trek.
Beklatal: Located along the way to the breathtaking Brahmatal trek, this Alpine lake completely freezes over in the peak winter season. This offers a unique opportunity to see the lake in a completely different light. Surrounded by lush meadows, the lake boasts a high biodiversity of flora and fauna. The Frozen Bekaltal is a site to behold. However from Bekaltal no Prominent Himalayan peak is visible. You can catch glimpses of lower Himalayan Hills but no such Prominent peaks is visible.
Story Behind the Bekaltal Lake
Named After Vikral Tal: Some legends say the lake was originally called Vikral Tal, meaning mysterious or intense, because:
- The dense forest around the lake remained dark even in daylight
- Shepherds believed divine or mystical energies guarded the area
- Over time, the name softened into Bekaltal.
Brahmatal Base Camp: You’ll find yourself at an altitude of 3200m. From here, you can take in stunning views of various mountain ranges and the towering Himalayan peaks. The Peaks visible from Brahmatal lake are Mt. Trishul (7120m), Mt. Nanda Ghunti (6309m), Chaukhamba Range, Neelkanth Peak, Hathi Godha Peak, Panchachuli Range, Maikotli and Mrigthuni
Last but not the least, Views from the summit: There is no doubt that you might have witnessed many Himalayan peaks till now. But what you will see from the summit is nothing short of spectacular. The early morning sunrays lighting up the Himalayas and giving you a feel that you are standing at the highest point will make you mesmerized. From the summit you will get a 180-270 deg panorama views of both the Garhwal and Kumaon Himalayas.
- Mt. Trishul (7,120 m)
The largest and most striking peak seen from the Brahmatal Summit. Its snow-covered ridges dominate the left skyline.
- Mt. Nanda Ghunti (6,309 m)
Standing right beside Trishul, Nanda Ghunti looks spectacular during sunrise. Together they form the iconic Trishul–Nanda Ghunti wall visible from the summit.
- Chaukhamba Massif
The four-peaked Chaukhamba range is visible toward the west. This massive group adds depth and grandeur to the summit view.
- Neelkanth Peak
Shaped like a white pyramid, Neelkanth appears on clearer winter days. It is one of the most prominent peaks of the Garhwal Himalayas.
- Hathi–Ghoda Peaks
These twin peaks resemble an elephant (Hathi) and a horse (Ghoda). They appear distinct and sharp from the summit ridge.
- Maiktoli & Mrigthuni
Part of the Kumaon Himalayan belt, these peaks enhance the panoramic snow range seen from the summit.
- Panchachuli Peaks (On Very Clear Days)
Far on the eastern horizon, the five majestic Panchachuli peaks may also be visible when the weather is extremely clear.
