Kuari Pass Trek | Things you must know before planning

Kuari Pass trek is one of the most popular treks in India. It was first explored by Lord Curzon in 1905 and since then it is also known as Lord Curzon trail. It is a popular trekking destination for Indian and Foreign trekkers

If you are planning this trek, here are few things which you must know before going to this trek.

  1. Trekking Gears:As it is a winter trek the temperatures can drop to as low as -15 degrees. Though you need most of the trekking gears yet Shoes and jacket are the most essential things which you cannot compromise with. The jackets should be warm with a temperature rating of -5 to -10 degrees. A pair of high ankle water resistant trek shoe is recommended for this trek.

Pro tip: Buy a shoe at least a week before the start of trek. Wear it in your day to day life so that the shoe gets accustomed to your foot size.

  1. Difficulty: The Kuari Pass trek is rated as a moderate trek and can be done by both beginners as well as experienced trekkers. To fully enjoy this trek it is essential to come prepared. You should start preparing at least 1 month before the start date of your trek. Normal home work outs and jogging are enough for this trek.

Pro Tip: If you can jog for 5 kms in 30 minutes you are good to go on this trek.

  1. Camping Experience at Khulara: Khullara is one of the most beautiful Camp sites in India. The camp site is like a large flat playground at an elevation of 3600 m above sea level which is rarely found in a Himalayan trek.

Pro tip: This camp site is perfect for stargazing at night. On a clear sky you can see million stars over Snow laden Himalayan peaks

  1. Witness Himalayan peaks like Nanda Devi, Kamet, Dunagiri, Hathi Parvat, Neelkanth and many more. Nanda Devi being the 2nd highest Himalayan peak in India. Mt. Kamet is the 3rd highest Himalayan peak in India.
  2. Network & Connectivity – Stay Prepared

You will be staying at Pipalkot or Joshimath on the first and 5th day of your trek. You will get almost all networks till this point. The trek starts from Tugasi Village and once you cross Tugasi you will not have any network during the day. There are some spots near gulling camp site where you may get some network.

  1. Medical Certificate

A medical certificate is mandatory on this trek. The certificate has to be made from Joshimath or Pipalkoti only. A medical certificate from your city is not valid on this trek. This is as per the guidelines of local administration.
