Roopkund Trek Overview
Roopkund Trek famously known as the Skeletal Lake, is a high altitude glacial lake in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. The Roopkund trek to Roopkund is among the best and must do treks of the country as it offers different varieties and change of landscape ranging from lush green meadows to forest trails, high altitude green meadows, snow capped mountains, a high altitude glacial lake and finally a high altitude Himalayan pass i.e . Junargali Pass.
Situated at the footsteps of mighty Trishul & Nanda Ghuti Peaks, Roopkund is known for hundreds of mysterious human skeletons found at the periphery of the lake. Situated at an astonishing altitude of 5029 metres above sea level, this lake remains frozen for most parts of the year and its after monsoon that the snow melts and one can see hundreds of human skeletons around the edges of the lake.
The trek to Roopkund crosses through high meadows of Bedni Bugyal, considered as the most beautiful bugyal of Himalayan region. The trek to Roopkund Trek starts from Lohajung which also serves as the base of Brahmatal Trek. The trail from Lohajung to Junargali pass is of 26 km of moderate grade with some level walks in between. This trek do requires physical fitness and stamina and is not suitable for persons with heart problems, blood pressure and asthma patients

If you are going on a trek don’t expect mobile signals. There are few spots on the trails of few treks where you might find a single tower or something but it always depends if that is enough to make a call or not.
As there are no permanent toilets on the trek, we carry toilet tents which are dry toilets so you need to carry wet tissues/tissue wipes with you.
Yes, TSS team can organize private batches for individual groups, but the cost of the trek may vary according to the number of members in your group. You can talk to our trek coordinator via whatsapp/call to get the customized group rates.
It’s a strict no. If you fall sick during the trek due to alcohol consumption TheSearchingSouls has the right to cancel your trek and send you back to base village. No expenses shall be refunded in that case and you will have to pay additional for stay at base village.
Start running/walking at least 3-4 Kms everyday. Start running or walking at least 3-4 Kms everyday. This will help your body get used to walking, which makes your trekking experience smoother and more comfortable.
If it’s a snow trek, good trekking shoes are mandatory. If you buy new shoes, do walk for a few days so that it fits you well and doesn’t leave you with blisters while you trek. If it is a summer or a post monsoon trek, shoes with good grip and ankle support will do.
We provide 3 Veg meals and evening Snacks. There will be no non veg served during the trek. Eggs may or may not be served depending on the trek.

Himalayan Treks & Expeditions prides itself on being prepared for any emergency situation. Our guides are trained in first aid and can deal with most of the basic ailments that occur during a trek. Every camp site has basic first aid and oxygen cylinders But if a serious emergency occurs, we will evacuate you to the base village and nearest hospital but the expenses of that have to be borne by the individual.

How to Reach Lohajung?
Lohajung is the base camp for the Roopkund trek, and it is located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. You can use the following modes of transportation to reach Lohajung:
By Air: The Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the closest airport to Lohajung, approximately 220 km away. Once you arrive at the airport, you can easily book a taxi or take a bus to reach Lohajung. The total duration of the journey from the airport to the base camp is estimated to be around 9-10 hours.
By Train: The nearest railway station to Lohajung is Kathgodam Railway Station, located around 210 km away. From the railway station, you can book a taxi or take a bus to reach Lohajung. The journey takes around 8-9 hours.
By Road: Lohajung is well connected by road to major cities in Uttarakhand. Buses and taxis are available from cities like Delhi, Dehradun, Haridwar, and Kathgodam. The nearest major town to Lohajung is Karnaprayag, which is around 23 km away. From Karnaprayag, you can book a taxi or take a local bus to reach Lohajung.
