Dayara Bugyal Trek | Things You Must Know Before Planning

Dayara Bugyal is one of the largest Himalayan meadow in India. It offers breathtaking views of mighty Himalayan peaks like Bandarpoonch, Jaonli, and Srikanth. Situated in Uttarkashi district, this trek is perfect for beginners and equally rewarding for seasoned trekkers

If you’re planning for this trek, here are a few important things you must know before going:

Difficulty Level

No trek is easy but comparatively Dayara Bugyal is easier than other Himalayan Treks. It is     rated easy to moderate, making it ideal for first-timers and families. The total trek distance is around 16 km, usually covered in 3 days.
To fully enjoy this trek, basic fitness is enough. Start light jogging and staircase climbing 3–4 weeks before the trek.

Pro Tip:
If you can jog for 5 km in 30 minutes, you are fit enough for this trek.

Network & Connectivity

This is one of the few Himalayan treks where you have networks available during the trek. At Gui Campsite networks are good enough to make a video call.

Pro Tip:

If you have a JIO sim card you will have the best network on the trek.

Trekking Gears

Although the trek is considered easy to moderate, the temperatures at night are extremely cold. Especially the Gui Camp site is one of the coldest camp sites found in any of the winter treks.  A warm down jacket, and a good quality high-ankle trekking shoe are must-haves. The trail can be snowy and slippery in winter, so ensure your shoes have a good grip and ankle support.

Pro Tip:
Do check if the service provider has micro spikes and gaiters included in the packages without them the trek can be difficult to complete or the best you can do is go through our Hampta Pass packing guide so you never miss out on any essential gear.

Camping Experience

Camping at Dayara Bugyal is a surreal experience — imagine waking up in wide-open meadows surrounded by snow-capped peaks. The majestic peaks like Jaonli, Srikanth, and Bandarpoonch are visible from the camp site itself.

Pro Tip:

The camp site is best for stargazing. If you are a photographer do carry a tripod for some milky way shots

Medical Certificate

As per the revised norms by the local administration a valid medical fitness certificate and trek insurance are now mandatory for all trekkers. You can get it from your home city.

Pro tip:

Tata AIG and ASC 360 are reliable adventure insurance service providers which can provide insurance at a budget friendly price.
