Brahmatal Trek | Things You Must Know Before Planning
The Brahmatal Trek is one of the most beautiful winter treks in Uttarakhand, offering snow-covered trails, frozen lakes, and panoramic Himalayan views. This trek takes you through dense forests, open meadows, and scenic campsites with breathtaking views of Mt. Trishul and Nanda Ghunti.
If you’re planning to do this trek, here are a few important things you must know before going

Camping Experience
The campsites of Bekaltal and Brahmatal are among the most scenic in Uttarakhand. The sunset from the Bekaltal camp site is magical. At Brahmatal you camp near a frozen lake surrounded by oak forests and wake up to golden light on snow peaks.
The final ascent to Brahmatal Top rewards you with 360° views of Mt. Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, Chaukhamba, and Neelkanth.
Pro Tip:
Stay awake for at least an hour after dinner — on a clear night, you’ll witness one of the most stunning stargazing skies in the Indian Himalayas.
Trekking Gears
Since Brahmatal is primarily a winter trek, temperatures can drop to -10°C or even lower at night. You’ll need to carry proper winter trekking gear — especially a warm down jacket (rated for -10°C), fleece layers, thermal innerwear, and water-resistant high-ankle trekking shoes.
Snow spikes and gaiters are often required on this trek due to the heavy snow on the upper stretches. The Searching Souls will provide you with both spikes and gaiters for smoothly and successfully doing this trek.
Difficulty Level
The Brahmatal trek is rated as Easy to moderate, suitable for both beginners and experienced trekkers. It’s around 24–28 km long and takes 5 days to complete.
The gradual ascent makes it manageable, but cold conditions and snow makes it challenging. Basic fitness and stamina are essential, you can start jogging or stair climbing, at least a month before your trek.
Pro Tip:
You can start preparing by climbing stairs with a weighted rucksack (8-10 Kg) for building your stamina for the trek
Network & Connectivity
The last reliable mobile network is available at Lohajung, which also serves as the base village for the trek. Both Jio and airtel are available at Lohajung
Once you start trekking, you’ll lose all network connectivity. Make sure to inform your family beforehand
Pro Tip:
You can get limited Jio and BSNL signals at some high-altitude points, but don’t rely on them.

Best Time to Visit
Brahmatal is best known as a winter snow trek, ideal from December to March. During this time, the trail is blanketed in snow, and the frozen lakes create a surreal atmosphere.
