Things you should definitely carry with yourself
When you are packing for the Hampta Pass trek, your clothes are your safety gear. Here are the most important things you should never leave behind:
- A Good Raincoat or Poncho: In July and August, the rain can start at any minute. A good quality raincoat keeps you dry, and keeping dry is the number one way to stay warm.
- Warm Thermals: Always keep one dry set of thermal top and bottom wrapped in a plastic bag inside your backpack. Only wear them inside the tent for sleeping so they stay completely dry.
- A Windproof Jacket: The winds at the highest points like Hampta Pass and Chandratal Lake are very sharp. A jacket that blocks the wind will save you from shivering.
- Warm Cap and Gloves: You lose a lot of body heat from your head and hands. A woolen beanie and a pair of gloves will make your cold nights inside the tent much more comfortable.
- Extra Socks: Walking in wet socks causes blisters and makes your feet freezing cold. Carry extra pairs of thick woolen socks just for the night.
