Most trekking companies, including The Searching Souls, begin their packages and pickups for Kedarkantha Trek directly from Dehradun. If byany chance a company offers a “Delhi to Delhi” option, they are simply adding your bus or train tickets to the overall package.
Since Dehradun has its own railway station and airport, you can travel there directly without any difficulty. If you are planning your journey through Delhi, here are the easiest ways to reach Dehradun.

How to Reach Dehradun From Delhi
Travelling from Delhi is quite easy and convenient as the city is well-connected with all major modes of transportation. Since the Kedarkantha Trek starts from Dehradun, the first step of your journey is to reach Dehradun from Delhi. You can easily travel to Dehradun by bus, train, or a direct flight, depending on your comfort and preference.
By Air: Travelling from Delhi to Dehradun by air is the fastest option and the nearest airport to Kedarkantha is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradunbut booking a flight from Delhi to Dehradun is generally not recommended unless you are coming in on a connecting flight from another part of the country. By the time you travel to the Delhi airport, clear security, board, fly, and exit, the total time spent matches a standard road trip.On top of that, flight tickets are usually more expensive than travelling by taxi or bus.
By Rail: If you want a comfortable sleep so you aren’t tired for the trek, the train is your best option. Two overnight trains run daily from Delhi to Dehradun:
- Nanda Devi Express: This train starts from Delhi late at night at 11:50 PM and reaches Dehradun at 5:40 AM the next morning.
- Dehradun Express: This one starts a bit earlier at 9:10 PM and gets you to Dehradun by 5:00 AM.

By Bus: An overnight Volvo Bus from Delhi is the most convenient mode to reach Dehradun. The price of an Overnight Volvo Bus from Delhi is approximately ₹500 to ₹1000, whereas ordinary Bus rate is slightly lower, that is from ₹300 to ₹700. Road trip is approximately 4:50-6:50 hours, depending on traffic and weather.

By Taxi: Taking a taxi is one of the fastest and easiest ways to travel. Thanks to the new Delhi–Dehradun Expressway, the journey now takes about 2.5 hours. A 4-seater taxi usually costs around ₹5,000, and a 6-seater taxi costs about ₹6,000. It is a comfortable and convenient choice, especially for small groups.
Journey After Reaching Dehradun:
Once you reach Dehradun, your next step is to reach Prince Chowk, as The TSS (The Searching Soul) team will pick you up from Prince Chowk at 7:00 AM. Don’t worry, it’s very easy to reach.
- If you’re coming by train, then Prince Chowk is only about 700 metres from Dehradun Railway Station, so you can even walk there in around 10 minutes, and if you don’t want to walk, you can also take an auto-, which usually costs around ₹10.
- If you’re arriving at the ISBT Bus Stand, Prince Chowk is about 6 km away. You can take a shared auto or city bus for₹ 20, or book an Ola or Uber if you prefer a more comfortable ride.
Day 01: Dehradun to Sankri | 196 Km Drive |8-9 hours
- Your Kedarkantha trek begins from Prince Chowk, Dehradun. From here, you’ll begin a scenic 196 km drive to Sankri, passing through beautiful places like Mussoorie, Kempty Falls, Purola, and Netwar.
- You’ll reach Sankri by evening, where you’ll check in to your guesthouse or hotel.
Day 02: Trek from Sankri to JudaKatalab Camp site | 3.5 Km Trek |5-6 Hours | Altitude Gain: 7200 ft to 9186 ft
- On Day 2 you trek towardsJudaKaTalab campsite.
- The trail is around 3.5 km long and takes approximately 5–6 hours to complete. The climb is easy to moderate and takes you through beautiful dense forests filled with oak and rhododendron trees.
- By afternoon, you will reach the JudaKaTalab campsite, where you can enjoy lunch and take some rest. During the winter season, the lake remains completely frozen, creating a beautiful and unforgettable view.
Day 03: Trek to Kedarkantha Base camp from JudaKaTalab | 3 Km trek, 4-5 Hours | Altitude gain: 9186 ft to 10334 ft
- On Day 3 you will begin your trek towards the Kedarkantha Base Camp. The trail is around 3 km and takes approximately 4–5 hours to complete. As you gain altitude, the landscape starts changing, offering more beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and snow-covered trails.
- You will reach the Kedarkantha Base Camp around lunchtime, where you can enjoy your meal and take some rest.
- In the evening, a short acclimatization walk will be planned to help your body adjust to the higher altitude and prepare for the summit climb ahead.
Day 04: The Summit Day, Night stay at Hargaon Camp | 7 km 9-10 Hours | Altitude gain: 10334 ft to 12500 ft
- Today is the most exciting and memorable day of your Kedarkantha trek, the summit day. You will wake up early around 3:00 AM and begin your climb towards the majestic Kedarkantha Peak.
- The summit climb is around 3.5 km and involves steep sections with some moderate climbs and short level walks in between.
- Since there are no water sources available on the trail, make sure to carry at least 1–2 litres of water with you.
- After reaching the summit at 12,500 ft, take time to celebrate this incredible achievement and enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
- You will have a packed lunch at the summit before starting your descent back to the Hargaon Camp.
Day 05: Descend to Sankri from Hargaon and Drive Back to Dehradun | 4 Km descend, 196 Km Drive
- After breakfast at the Hargaon campsite, it’s time to begin your descent back to Sankri village. The 4 km downhill trail will take you through the beautiful forest paths, allowing you to enjoy the last glimpses of the Himalayan landscape before completing your trek.
- You will reach Sankri by around 1:00 PM, where the vehicle will be ready to drive you back to Dehradun.
- You are expected to reach Dehradun by around 10:00 PM. Please plan your onward journey accordingly, keeping the arrival time in mind.
