What To Pack For Goechala Trek

The Goechala Trek is a dream trek for many mountain lovers, as it offers some of the most spectacular views of the Himalayas. Located in the beautiful landscapes of Sikkim, this trek takes you through dense forests, colourful valleys, high-altitude trails, and breathtaking viewpoints overlooking the mighty mountains.

However, the beauty of the trail also comes with challenges. The weather can change quickly, temperatures can drop significantly, and the long trekking days require proper preparation. Carrying the right backpack, clothing, footwear, and essential items can make your journey safer and more comfortable.

In this blog, we have listed everything you need to carry for the trek, from basic trekking gear and warm layers to personal items. So, here’s a quick checklist of things you must pack for the GoechalaTrek:

The first category is Basic trek Essentials: These are few items which you must have on a trek

  • A Rucksack to carry all your stuff. A 60-70 L rucksack is an ideal size.
  • A rain cover for your bag
  • Bag Pack of about 15-20 L for your packed lunch and other quick access items.
  • A Poncho or Raincoat
  • Trekking poles,as they help reduce strain on your knees, especially during steep descents.
  • Trekking shoes with good grip (must be waterproof/resistant)

The Second Category is Clothing: Clothing is one of the most important parts of your packing list. Since temperatures vary throughout the day, it’s best to pack according to daytime trekking and nighttime camping conditions.

Recommended Daytime Clothing:

  • 3 Dry-fit T-shirts (preferably full-sleeve for sun protection)
  • 2 Quick-dry trekking pants (one for trekking and one as a backup)
  • 1 Fleece jacket
  • 1 Padded Jacket
  • 1 Waterproof rain jacket or poncho
  • 1 Windproof jacket or windcheater
  • 1 pair of fleece or woolen gloves and 1 pair of waterproof gloves
  • 1 Woolen cap for cold weather
  • 1 Sun cap for daytime protection
  • 5–6 pairs of socks, including 1–2 pairs of warm woolen socks
  • UV-protection sunglasses

Recommended Night Time Clothing:

  • Thermal innerwear (top and bottom)
  • Down or padded jacket for insulation
  • Warm woolen socks
  • Comfortable lower or track pants for the campsite

The 3rd Category is Personal utilities and toiletries which includes

  • Hand Towel, soap, facewash, toothbrush and toothpaste.
  • Toilet paper/wet wipes, Hand sanitizer (because of dry toilet tents with pit-style setup)
  • Sunscreen (Spf 30 or more), Moisturisers
  • A 1 Litre water bottle
  • Energy bars and dry fruits for snacking 
  • Lunch box for packed lunch
  • Sandals/Flip Flops for ease at the camp site as the whole day you will be in shoes and they might be wet
  • A Photo ID which is needed for your permits
  • Ziplock bags for stuff like batteries, phones or other electronics to add a layer of waterproofing.
